The Chalke Valley Stores, Post Office and Coffee Shop is situated in the United Reformed Church building in the centre of the village of Broad Chalke.  The village is at the heart of the beautiful Chalke Valley which forms part of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape.

The Hub, as it is known to all, is the village shop, not just for Broad Chalke but also for the Chalke Valley as a whole.  It has an extensive range of food products, both fresh and frozen as well as household products.  It was created by the local community and is largely managed and run by members of the community for the benefit, convenience and enjoyment of the Valley residents and visitors.  We welcome visitors from all over the country, and increasingly from all over the world.  Many come to the Chalke Valley to explore the National Landscape area which is rich in history, has many places of great interest to visit as well as events to attend.

Tony Patel, the Hub’s manager, is supported by a large team of volunteers whose involvement adds to a strong sense of community and helps make the experience of visiting in the Hub extremely relaxed, and the welcome genuinely warm and friendly. Wherever possible our products are sourced from small local growers and suppliers who are dedicated to fresh ingredients and very often to traditional methods of production.

The Hub is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday 9.00am to 4.00pm.  It is closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.  The Post Office in the Hub is operated as a sub-branch of Tisbury Post Office and is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week from 9.30am to 1.00pm. It provides a full range of postal, banking and foreign exchange services.  The Coffee Shop has a range of teas, coffees, and soft drinks together with cakes and savoury meals. It is open from 10.00am to 3.30pm during the week (until 2.00pm on Saturdays).  Hot food and lunches are served on weekdays, but not on Saturdays – cakes and drinks only!

Would you like to be involved?

You could volunteer in the shop or coffee shop, be a shareholder or both!

The day to day management of the shop and coffee shop is undertaken by a small team of paid managers who are assisted by a team of volunteers from the surrounding villages.  The volunteers are the key to the success of the Hub; without them our operations will simply not be financially viable and we would have to close. It is a thoroughly worthwhile and satisfying thing to do. It is very sociable and good fun, as well as hard work sometimes. It is the volunteers and staff who create the cheerful, friendly and welcoming atmosphere for which the Hub has become well known and much loved.  To learn more please contact our volunteer co-ordinators, Hilary Brown on 780496 and Liz Wiltshire on 780235.

How about being a shareholder in the Hub?

The Chalke Valley Community Hub Limited, a community benefit society, is the business which runs the Hub. Its activities are for community, not private, benefit.  All monies raised, and profits earned, must be applied to achieve this purpose.  The Society is owned by shareholders who are also its Members. Anyone may become a Member by buying one or more shares for £10 pounds each. Membership allows shareholders to vote at General Meetings of the Society on matters such as Management Committee elections and governance. Also Members can stand for election to the Management Committee itself.  To learn more or to obtain a share prospectus and application gorm please contact Terry Jolly, Society Secretary on 780007.

The HUB is a designated SAFE PLACE This is an initiative set up by Wiltshire council to encourage vulnerable people to get out, by identifying places where they and their carers can go in the knowledge that if something was to happen, we are here to help.www.nationalsafeplace.org/what-is-safe-place
